Farm to Kitchen Film
Source:  Hayley Matson-Mathes

The film project grew out of a conversation about how culinary students are extremely interested in learning more about farming (and where culinary ingredients come from), but are unable to get themselves to a working farm. "Farm to Kitchen" fills this education gap by featuring a host of local products: lettuces, watercress, tomatoes, taro, ginger, Maui onions, mango, hearts of palm, sugar, chocolate and vanilla. Creation of the "Farm to Kitchen" film was made possible by the Hale ‘Aina ‘Ohana with support from The Atherton Family Foundation and Alexander and Baldwin Foundation. We owe a special thanks to Melanie Kosaka (producer of "Hawaii Cooks with Roy Yamaguchi") for much of the film footage; Joan Namkoong for sharing her vision and writing the film script, and Robert Bates for directing the production. The film is available in DVD format for culinary programs, students and high school culinary programs free of charge. The DVD is available to commercial restaurant owners/operators for $25.
